Messina Hof Winery

4545 Old Reliance Road, Bryan, TX

Messina Hof Winery & Resort stands as a pillar of Texas wine culture, blending rich family heritage, innovation, and Southern hospitality in the heart of Bryan College Station. Established in 1977 by Paul Vincent and Merrill Bonarrigo, Messina Hof is the fourth oldest winery in Texas and has grown from a humble one acre experimental vineyard into one of the state’s most celebrated wine destinations.

A Legacy Rooted in Tradition

The story of Messina Hof is deeply intertwined with the Bonarrigo family’s winemaking lineage, which stretches back over 200 years to Messina, Sicily and Hof, Germany, the namesakes of the winery. Paul Vincent, a sixth generation winemaker, and Merrill blended their European roots and passion for wine to pioneer the Texas wine industry. Their journey began with a feasibility study from a Texas A&M graduate student, which inspired them to plant varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, and Lenoir on their Bryan property.

Growth, Innovation, and Family

From the first harvest in 1980, Messina Hof embraced the motto “Join the Family,” welcoming neighbors and wine lovers to experience their craft. The Bonarrigos’ dedication paid off quickly: by 1981, Messina Hof won its first medal at the Texas State Fair, setting the stage for decades of accolades. As demand grew, the family expanded their vineyards and production, releasing their first commercial vintage in 1983 and soon distributing wines across Texas and internationally.

Today, the legacy continues with Paul Mitchell Bonarrigo, the seventh generation winemaker, and his wife Karen at the helm. Together, they have propelled Messina Hof to new heights, producing over 50,000 cases of wine annually and earning recognition as the most awarded winery in Texas.

A Destination for Wine, Food, and Hospitality

Messina Hof’s flagship estate in Bryan is more than a winery, it’s a full resort experience. Guests can tour the picturesque vineyards, sample award winning wines in the Tasting Room, and enjoy gourmet dining at The Vintage House Restaurant.
